Welcome to a narrative portrait of The Rolling Stones, created by illustrator and fine artist, Bethany Vanderputten. With the first painting of Mick Jagger created on the 50th anniversary of their first gig in London (July 1962) and the final painting completed a year later, this is the latest in Bethany's music celebrity portraits viewable on her web site at www.bethanyillustrates.com.

This series of 24 original acrylic paintings was created on a variety of boards and canvases, with an ocean-inspired theme. With a diverse subject matter typical of Bethany's creative style (from classic portraiture and still life to more surreal expressive artworks) these are all based on the idea that the band may be in the midst of a mystery that we have all been a cultural witness and participant in for the last five decades.

Whether this narrative simply describes a sea-like world, or is a trippy exploration through the depths of the band's collective psyche, is a part of the mystery. A strong undercurrent of the series is a visual exploration of the accelerated impact of climate change, especially upon our world's oceans.

Thank you for viewing THE MYSTERY OF UNKNOWN WATERS: A 50th Anniversary Narrative Portrait of The Rolling Stones. Summer 2013.
